ARE WE HAPPIER THAN OUR FOREFATHERS?

Are we happier than our forefathers is a difficult question to answer. The meaning of word happiness is differ from person to person. It has been said, is a state of mind. It arise from a deeper sense of satisfaction.

We should not consider happiness with material comforts. A rich man may have all the material comforts around him, but still he may not be happy. He is restless for several reasons; First, because the more he has the more he wants. And second, because he is always worried that what he has, may be taken away from him by robbers or any one else. Happiness depend upon peace of mind.

In this sense our forefathers were happier than us. They lived tension free lives. They enjoyed peace of mind. They work with their hands and after a hard day's work, they slept the sleep of just. Modern man tosses about the bed restlessly, because he has a hundred and one worries.

Our forefathers were in close contact with nature. This is a source of great happiness. It is because modern man is divorced from nature. He runs away from the hustle and bustle of city life during week ends to the country - side in search of peace of mind. It is only in an environment of peace that man can find happiness. Our forefathers always had nature around them, and they experienced peace of mind in nature.

It is said that health and happiness go together. It goes without saying that our forefathers were healthier than us. They exercised every day and this keep them healthy. On the other hand modern man is pray to several diseases, which are the product of this age of hurry and scurry such as hypertension, peptic ulcer, nervous disorder.

Our forefathers breathed fresh and pure air, which is so very necessary to health, which is the foundation of happiness. Modern man lives in an environment that is polluted - the air, the earth and the sea. Pollution is the greatest hazard to our health.

It should, therefore, be clear to us that our forefathers were happier than ourselves.

HOME SWEET HOME

Home. What do we think of when we think of a home? A roof, four walls, windows and a door, right? Ask a child to draw a home, and in most of the cases that's what you'll get.

Home is the place where we are born and live. It is the sweetest place in the world. There is nothing in the world as sweet as a home. "East or west, home is the best"  as the saying goes. Home is the symbol of human togetherness, a place where all of us learn the first step of life. When we sense danger elsewhere we find safety in our home. When there is joy, we share it with other members of our home. Everybody loves home. For this reason our English poet has written

 " Home home sweet home
There is no place like home".

Home is considered as a place where you were brought up, which is related to the childhood memories, toys, favourite dishes and traditions. Sometimes it happens with those students who have desire to go home in the middle of the school day. They close their eyes and see unforgettable masterpieces like a kitchen, bed room, living, room etc. Generally, these images are the houses of our grandparents and parents. In these spaces the family gathers and has a wonderful time together. This place brings back warm memories about the childhood and family holidays.

" Home is where the heart is". All our inter-most feelings, affection and devotion are concentrated in that one little place in the world. It is the place to which we keep returning to all the time. Children grow up, they get married, they raise their own families. But nothing excites a person so much as a reunion with one's brothers and sisters and their families in the place where they grow up together. They share the beautiful feelings of oneness with their own family.

It is the mother who contribute most to the sweetness of the home. She provides everything that makes a house a home - orderliness, comforts, peace, love and security. She is the cement that holds the home together. Each member of the family in their own way contributes and adds to the sweetness of that loveliest place on earth which we can never erase from our minds,
 the Home.

EMPTY VESSEL MAKE THE MOST SOUND

When we fill water in an empty vessel and strike it with something,  it makes less noice. But when we strike an empty vessel, it makes more noice as compared to the empty one. Such is referred to our human lives. There are people around us who are like empty vessels or like filled vessels.

Empty vessels referred to empty headed people who are the most talkative and noisy.  These people go on speaking continuously, but their speeches are meaningless. They always say that they can do this and that. You will always find this type of a person with very little learning, loves to jabber all the while and laugh and joke and make lot of unnecessary noise. This is because the person doesn't really have any substantial matter in the head and so hides this fact with a lot of meaningless chatter. Such people are not to be taken seriously. They talk much and are short of action.

Filled vessels referred to people who talk less and do more. This people are of real substances, who look around, observe and when he or she speaks, it is to say something really meaningful. Every word ultered by them will be meaningfull and so they have to be taken seriously. They talk sensibly and their words
carry weight. They are capable of doing everything that they say. They would not say anything if they don't mean it. Such people put forth a lot of sense into their talk. They believe more in action than in words. They are like filled vessels which make less noise.

Hence when we are in a conversation we should only take a fair share of the conversation and should not keep talking foolishly or childishly for a long time about something unimportant or without saying anything important as if no one else is there. This will show that we respect other people's opinions and wish to hear them out too and also send out the message that we are not superficial people who only bore others with their talk.

MY NEXT - DOOR NEIGHBOUR

A good neighbour is a great blessing. Neighbour play an important role in our social life. A good neighbour makes our life sweet where bad neighbour makes a hell of it. One cannot have neighbours of one's choice. We live in a crowded locality. The streets are narrow and the houses are mostly multi - storeyed. So we have quite a few neighbours.

Our next door neighbour is a workman. He is very self - respective and hardworking. He has one son. He is very naughty. He is dirty and misbehave with strangers. His wife is a terror to all the ladies of the street. She has the habit of backbiting. She is ugly but she considers herself very beautiful. She and her son are spoilt ones. They set their radio at full pitch and disturb others. It is because of this that people do not like to have any dealing with them.

The family who lives next to our left is a family of Mr. Naik . He is a Police officer. He has one son. Though he is in police he never shows of his power. He never misuse his power. He is a man of good habits and helps the other. His son is very naughty and did not giving respect to elders. His wife is hard working. They both love everyone. In their leisure time they helps the poor and needy. If there is any problem with anyone they are the first to turn up for help. We have good neighbour relations with his family. We often visit each other's house.

Majority of my neighbourhood comprises good people. They are social and helping. I feel very lucky to have such a nice family as my next door neighbour. A good neighbour is indeed god's gift. So we should try to be good neighbours and create an environment of peace and friendship in the neighbourhood...

MY DREAM

Many children have a desire to dance. Some proclaim that when they grow up they want to became professional dancers. Like that Dancing is one of my biggest passion in life.

When I was 6 year old, I used to saw Bharatanatyam dance programme on television. Since then it became my childhood dream to learn classical dance. When I was 8, my mom enrolled me in dancing classes. I started by learning all the basics, for example first, second, third, fourth and fifth position of the feet. I used to keep practicing everything.  For the first year, dancing was a side hobby to help keep me busy after my school. Even though dancing was my passion , it did not became serious until my dance sir shouted on me.

Now for me , Dance is basic part of my life. Over the years dance has helped me to  grow in other ways such as to face audience and the competitors. Dance trains me to concentrate my mind, expression, feelings, hand and footwork. This is a perfect form of Yoga. After my Arangetram surely I am planning to learn more and teach dance to all the new comers. My wish is to make every one dance.

We have one special talent. Mine is Bharatnatyam dance and i will continue to use it everyday. I just hope my talent doesn't become a curse.
